Trade Marks in the US, are governed and managed by the US Patent and Trade Mark Office. The trade mark process differs quite significantly to that in the UK, as the Trade Mark Office plays a much more active role in determining whether a trade mark can or cannot be registered.
This is something that big brands need to think about when protecting their trade mark across the world.
Michael discovered a wide range of brands that can be spotted on a UK high street and therefore are likely to hold both a UK and US trade mark.


There are, of course, some classic US brands that haven’t yet made it across to this side of the Atlantic. While Macy’s do not have any shops in the UK, they do actually still hold a UK trade mark and have done since 1984.
