Pink v Pharrell Williams over P.Inc trade mark

Two powerhouses in the music industry are going head to head over a new US trade mark application.

Music icon Pink has this week filed a challenge against a trade mark application filed by ‘Happy’ music star Pharrell Williams over concerns that it will cause confusion.

Williams sought to protect the brand ‘P.Inc’ in a wide range of goods and services, including “promotional marketing services in the field of music.”

Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, filed a challenge, claiming that the mark is too similar to her stage name, especially phonetically, and this is likely to cause confusion and/or deception on the part of the public.

Pink wasn’t the first to challenge this application, as Victoria Secret had also sought to challenge William’s application on the basis of their own ‘Pink’ trade mark.

It will be interesting to see if Williams pushes forward with the application and seeks to defend it.
