I would like to file a worldwide trade mark application – where do I start?

In short, there isn’t a single application which can be filed in order to obtain global protection. However, if you already have an existing registration, you can expand your portfolio by preparing a WIPO Madrid application. One fixed fee will cover your mark in up to 122 countries. ​ You can simply choose which countries you wish to apply in and continue to add to it as your portfolio expands.

The important point to note is that you must already have a registered trade mark in the UK or EU on which to base your international application. This registration will form the basis of your Madrid application and therefore all of the details of your current registration will match those on your international application.
