Take a blank piece of paper, draw a line down the middle.
On the left side write
REGISTERED RIGHTS
On the other side write
UNREGISTERED RIGHTS
Now what?
Think of a brand. Now start the search.
Lets start with the unregistered rights. Focus on the first ten pages of google. Search for your chosen brand and look for both identical and similar sounding brands. Then search the domain name ie .com, .co.uk etc. If its available buy it. Great. If not, go back to stage 1 and search Google.
Then move to companies house and search https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/companies-house
Buy the Company ( Please check out sister company Lawdit Solicitors www.lawdit.co.uk)
Now move to the left hand side of the paper and start the Registered Rights process. In the case of a brand you need to add to the unregistered searches by carrying out a registered trade mark search via the Trademarkroom.com or use the UKIPO and the search facility here
Search for a trade mark – Intellectual Property Office (ipo.gov.uk)
Good luck – Sample of my art work below!
